Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) Australia has been approved as a full member of the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID), the peak body for Australian non-government organisations working in international aid and development.

AKF Australia was one of ten organisations admitted as full members at ACFID’s Annual General Meeting in Canberra on Tuesday 13 October.

“For nearly six decades, the Aga Khan Foundation has worked to improve quality of life in some of the world’s most challenging places,” said Afshin Ghassmi, AKF Australia’s Country Director, who attended the meeting. “Full membership of ACFID connects that experience with Australia’s development community. We look forward to collaborating with fellow ACFID members, and to learning from and contributing to the sector.”

The milestone follows AKF Australia’s admission as an Interim Full Member earlier this year. Full membership confirms that the organisation meets the ACFID Code of Conduct’s rigorous standards for governance, accountability, transparency and financial management, and gives it a voice in the sector-wide discussions and decisions that shape Australian international development.
