The Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) 2025 National Conference was held in Canberra on 5 to 6 November 2025, bringing together leaders, practitioners and partners from across the international development and humanitarian sector.

Centred on the theme ‘Driving Transformation in Development and Humanitarian Action’, the conference reflected on a year of political and economic instability, rising inequality, social division and accelerating climate impacts, while highlighting practical, locally led pathways for systems change.

The conference coincided with ACFID’s 60th anniversary, marking six decades of collective effort across Australia’s development sector. The milestone was formally acknowledged with a special celebration at Government House, hosted by Her Excellency the Honourable Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of Australia.

The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) Australia attended the conference, joining partners from across the sector to connect, learn and share insights. Country Director, Afshin Ghassmi, and Global Practice Lead, Ana Barfield, represented AKF Australia over the two-day program, engaging with delegates and showcasing the AKF Learning Hub at the organisation’s booth. The Learning Hub is a free, award-winning global platform delivering high-quality, practical learning resources and expanding access to knowledge for those often excluded from traditional learning opportunities.

The event provided a valuable opportunity for the AKF Australia team to connect in person with partner organisations, sector peers and experts from across the international development community. Beyond sharing updates on AKF’s work, the conference created space for meaningful dialogue and learning, reinforcing the importance of collective action in driving sustainable change. AKF Australia is already looking ahead to continuing these conversations at ACFID 2026.
