International Day of the Girl – animation
A celebration of girls' education in Afghanistan
Since 2013, AKF has been implementing a large-scale girls’ education programme in Afghanistan called STAGES (Steps Towards Afghan Girls’ Education Success).
With funding from UKAid through the Girls’ Education Challenge, AKF and a consortium of partners* have been supporting over 210,000 girls get to school and stay in school longer.
Building on AKDN’s education programming in Afghanistan since 2002, the project is delivering a comprehensive package of interventions to ensure a sustainable ladder of learning opportunities for girls from pre-primary, primary and secondary levels, through to teacher training and adult literacy access across 15 of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces.
To celebrate this year’s International Day of the Girl, we created the #MeetLaila film to show how AKF and our partners are overcoming the barriers that many Afghan girls face when trying to access quality education.
We would like to thank the UK public for all your support, without which, programmes like STAGES would not be possible.
Steps Towards Afghan Girls’ Education Success (STAGES) is AKF’s largest girls’ education programme globally. *AKF is proud to work with a consortium of partners to implement this programme which includes CARE, Save the Children, Catholic Relief Services, Aga Khan Education Services, and the Afghan Education Production Organisation. It is supported by the Afghan Ministry of Education and funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
STAGES is funded with UKAid from the UK government.
