Overview

The Aga Khan Foundation has worked in Egypt since 2006 with an initial mandate to support the Om Habibeh Foundation (OHF) in promoting an “enabling environment” for the non-profit citizen sector in Aswan.

In 1991, Om Habibeh Aga Khan founded OHF, a locally registered non-profit organisation, to address the challenges faced by the most marginalised communities in Aswan. Om Habibeh was married to Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan (the grandfather and predecessor of His Highness the Aga Khan). After his passing in 1957, she made home along the Nile banks of Aswan.

In Egypt, the Aga Khan Foundation alongside OHF leads a range of integrated, innovative, and gender sensitive programmes in Aswan governorate.

OHF collaborates with a network of locally based community development associations throughout Aswan. It strengthens their capacities, fosters community participation and gender equality, and sparks innovative approaches to community-led development. OHF is a member of the Aga Khan Development Network and benefits from global resources and technical expertise of the Aga Khan Foundation.
