Elected Women Representatives: Sujata’s story
Sujata is one of few female Sarpanchs (village head) in rural India. She leads her local Gram Kachahari (village-level court), addressing minor offenses and disputes in the community, including reports of domestic violence.
Through AKF’s Advancing Gender Equality through Civil Society (AGECS) programme, women like Sujata have the opportunity to take on leadership roles in their community and support local sustainable development.
AGECS is part of the Foundations for Education and Empowerment (F4EE) programme, funded by Global Affairs Canada.
